We are building our house, acting as GC (yes we are insane)and I am trying to figure out which HVAC manufacturer I should look at. I want an energy efficient two-stage gas furnace. One that won't break the bank and has a low repair history. I would like a two stage ac unit also with the same criteria.

I can not find this type of comparison, at least not in the various sites I have accessed. I received a quote for Lennox but have read that Bryant and Carrier are one of the better furnaces with Rheem and Trane strong contenders. For AC; Carrier's Infinity, Bryant two-stage and Rheem Classic as a strong contender. The house will be built in Charlotte, NC

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes Those are all great advertised furnaces and A/C's But if you want a great furnace and a/c try a westinghouse, frigidaire, or a maytag system, All of these are built in St. Louis Mo. by the Nordyne Co. Checkout nordyne.com
I have been installing these for 13 years now and I can say these are the most trouble free and the best warranty in the busniess!

Kasia,

There's something more important than the HVAC manufacturer that you should be investigating, and that's the contractor you choose to install your HVAC system. No matter what type of equipment you select, if it's not installed correctly then it won't operate at it's maximum efficiency, provide you with the maximum comfort, or give you years of trouble-free service.

I always recommend checking with a better business burea or a chamber of commerce. You can also look at websites like http://www.natex.org or http://www.acca.org to find contrator locators. I highly recommend you use a NATE certified contractor, they cost more but it's usually worth it.

Once you find a contractor that you trust, let them know you want multi-stage HVAC equipment.

If the contractor you choose has a good reputation and you trust them, then the equipment manufacture doesn't really matter.

Hope this helps!
