I'm in the mist of a kitchen remodel. I currently have a Broan kitchen exhaust fan that is mounted under the cabinet ( the vent ductwork is located inside the cabinet & is vented directly to the outside of my house)...With the new design I will be installing a 36" Faber chimney style exhaust fan that will be centered in between two 36" cabinets....When I removed the old cabinet, I noticed that the hole for the vent in the outside wall is not centered ( its to the left of a stud), therefore I must close off the old hole & move it to the right of the stud about 4" to ensure it is covered by the new chimeny ( which is only about 8" wide) What is the best way to do this? and is there any specific code requiring where the duct should be placed???
