We recently installed a 7,800 BTU window air conditioner to cool part of our house. It replaces an 8,200 BTU unit that did the job very well. The new unit, despite its similar size, cannot cool the room. On warm days (although not even as warm as when the previous unit was in place) the room temerature climbs about five degrees, which was never a problem before. It takes the new unit almost 15 hours to cool the room from 80 to 73 degrees, while the old on could do it an an hour or two. Standing in front of the unit, the air coming out of it seems "cool", but definitely not cold. By contrast, the old unit, and our 5,200 BTU bedroom unit, are uncomfortably cold to be directly in front of.

My question is this: What temperature air should come out of an air conditioner? The 5,200 bedroom unit consistently puts out air that is about 51 degrees. The new 7,800 unit puts out 62 degree air. Room temperature for both is 73 degrees. It seems to me that the new unit just isn't getting cold enough, but the manufacturer says it sounds like it's working OK. Anyone have any thoughts?
