Geothermal heat pump systems are great for energy efficiency but they are quite costly when compared to conventional systems. Today's advances in air-source heat pumps allow the same evergy efficiency (18 - 20 SEER) as high efficiency geothermal heat pumps, but at a lower homeowner expense. Today most utility companies that offer heat pump rebates will provide the same discount whether it is a geothermal heat pump or a 15+ SEER air source heat pump. Either way, heat pumps are an excellent way to provide heating and air conditioning to most any home.
