I have a gas fireplace. I want to use the premade logs you can buy. Once I clean out the fire place, can I burn the logs without removing the gas metal burner rod that the gas came out of.

If your fireplace is a manufactured "slip in" unit (not a masonry fireplace) whether you can burn anything other than gas in the fireplace depends upon whether the fireplace AND the flue are rated for burning things other than gas.

If you have a masonry (brick, cement, etc.) fireplace you should be able to put wood or "presto logs" in it and burn them without removing the gas line. In fact the gas line can be used to start the fire.

If you have a metal manufactured fireplace you need to check the owner's manual for the model to see if it is rated for burning things other than gas. If you do not have the manual -- check the manufacturers web site for specs. against the model number on a ID plate found somewhere on the unit. Most importantly the flue that conducts the combustion gases up the chiminey must be rated for "wood burning" and not just for gas. If you cannot get the info assume the worst and do not burn anything other than the gas, you could start a fire in your flue.
