The noise from running water in my bathtub is so loud you can hear it almost all over the house. The shower cannot be heard. The house is two-story, and both bathrooms have the same loud noise. It's not a 'hammer' noise, but rather a running water noise. Any help? Thanks.

The shower runs about 2 1/2 gallons per minutes maximum. A tub faucet will run about double that. The high water volume running through the pipes to feed the tub creates alot of turbulence (noise) inside the water lines, at the tub valve, and at the tub spout.

Although it may be too late now, a few thoughts...Copper pipe bends in when it's cut with a tubing cutter. Plumbing code requires the copper pipe to be reamed back to full diameter before soldering, If the plumber didn't ream the ends of the pipe it will be more noisy. You could try removing tub spout and just filling tub with open pipe sticking out of wall to see if tub spout is causing the noise. Maybe a different style of spout would work.

Water pressure in some areas can be very high and can cause noise. If pressure is over 100#, our code requires an adjustable pressure regulating valve be installed (range 25 to 75#). Installing a regulator will quiet the water lines if pressure is very high. Good luck.
