We are planning a new house in NE KS and looking into making all things electric and being self-sufficient with a wind generator.

What are the best options for an electric heat source?

Probably in floor radiant.

Actually I can think the perfect system for you. It's called a steffes heater. We've used them in several houses and everybody loves them. In short, there are ceramics bricks inside the heater that heat electrically throughout the night - then those heated ceramic bricks hold enough heat that it can heat your whole house for the day. In your case with the wind generator, it could heat the bricks when it's windy and use the heat when it's not. It's completely electric and you can have both floor heat and forced air with this unit. You will probably need the forced air ducting for air conditioning anyway. Do some research and possibly contact the company - if it were mine, that would be the way I would go.
