I'm preparing my Mom's home for sale and found that the electrical circuit box is missing the door. Had an electrician check it out, and he thought he could order a new box, but just use the door, therefore saving me some money. However, the circuit box is 24 years old and Cutler and Hammer doesn't make it anymore. Any ideas on where to find out of production boxes/doors? or has anyone had any experience getting a fabricator to make a door. I really don't want to spend the money to replace the entire box.

W were once able to replace the switchbox door by taking the measurements of the box and going to Lowes and buying the box with nothing else. that way if you measure the size of the box and placement of the hinges or clips you can probably find one that will fit.

There is no aftermarket for this type of equipment. You could check some of the out of way lighting suppliers that sell to the trades. perhaps they have such a panel somewhere in their basement. But your fishing for a needle in a haystack I am sorry to say.

As far as fabrication of a new panel cover. Doubt it. The cover must meet the specs of the manufacture to be safe. Any homemade panel risks shock or short I am afraid your going to have to change panel.

The bright side is however, If you upgrade the panel its a selling feature that folks like. So it really will not be wasted money if you go that route.
