We just had a ventless gas fireplace put in. We also have a flat screen tv mounted above the fireplace. I have all the cords for the tv, cable box, etc going to a power strip. I was wondering if it would be safe to "hide" the power strip behind the fireplace or if it would get too hot back there. Thanks!!

It may not be safe to install a TV 'above' nor run combustible wiring 'behind' an unvented fireplace.

You need to consult the installation instructions of the fireplace and your local Mechanical Codes for acceptable clearances between the fireplace and combustible surfaces for your answer.

Also consult your TV manufacturer's literature, because I know that at least some TV manufacturers void their warranties if their products are installed above fireplaces.

Thanks so much for your suggestions! We didn't even think of that...we had mentioned it to the guys at Circuit City before we bought our TV, but that doesn't mean they really know anything about that. Thanks again!!!

Vent free means all the products of combustion stay in the house. If you read the manufacturer's info that came with the thing, you will find that it says to open a window when you operate the unit. That is because all the CO2,CO,Water vapor, and NOX are a significant source of indoor air pollution.
I'm an insulation and air sealing contractor and my work makes houses tighter. I do not work on homes that have unvented space heaters. If your house is extremely leaky maybe things will be OK.
