Maybe someone can lend a suggestion on my well problem. Here it is. My well pipe freezes in the winter when the temps are cold for a long period. Here the situation. I have a partial basement underneath a raised kitchen (about 2-3 feet above ground level. In my partial basement is my pressure tank, water softener and water heater. The basement is probably 3-4 feet deep. We bought the house this year in February. For the first week the well pipe coming into the house was frozen. Once the outside temps warmed up everything started flowing again. I have noticed that my well pipe into the basement comes in almost a ground level. What are some options to correct this? I am probably going to start digging right outside the house where the well pipe is to try to figure out exactly how far it is down in the ground. Once I do get to it could I wrap it in heat tape and bury the heat tape under ground? Typically, I am guessing, the pipe is usually below the frost line, correct? Depending on how far the well is from the house it is a major job to move it.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

Scott
