Just wondering if anyone has used, installed or looked into heating with corn? I heard that this saves alot of money. Can you use it to suppliment GFA heating? Do you need a seperate unit tor central air?
Just curious as I have seen alot of ads lately around here (MI) for corn for heating.

Has anyone found a good consistent source for bagged corn for use in these appliances? Local farm sources have proved uninterested.

I am using a QuadraFire Santa Fe for heating. I got it early this year so I haven't had a full heating season. It has done a good job for the time that it was used.

As far as fuel, daver, I'm not sure what you mean by local farm sources being uninterested. I purchase my corn from a farmer's cooperative. I went with one cooperative that supplies in 50# bags. The cooperative near me only supplies in 100# bags.

Since I didn't have much heating season left when I installed the stove I didn't buy huge quantities of corn. I purchased several hundred pounds to finish winter. In three months I'll pick up one ton and store that for early winter and then pick up another ton as my supplies dwindle.

Purchasing the several hundred pounds cost me 6 cents per pound. I can say DO NOT purchase from a store like Tractor Supply or other chain 'feed/farm supply' store. You will pay more than what wood pellets cost. If you're going to do that you might as well buy wood pellets to burn. Keep in mind that these chain stores truck in bagged feed corn from hundreds or thousands of miles away. You're paying freight to get the corn there. If you don't have a local source of shelled corn you shouldn't be heating with corn anyway.
