Considering converting to ventless propage gas log. Curretnly have masonary fireplace with heat-a-lator metal firebox. Chimney fireplace can be walked around and central to two rooms on first floor with unfinished basement.

Has anyone encountered this situation before?

Aftering measuring and re-measuring, and rechecking, the plan of attack is as follows:

1. Drill thru metal firebox
2. Drill thru masonary chimney
3. Cut exsisting pipe in basement, istall a T fitting and gas rated ball valve.
4. Run piping to chimney from basement with shut off valves next to chimney on first floor.
4. Following Mfg's specs. to hook up ventless propane gas log.
5. Enjoy not carrying in firewood and cleaning out the ash!

Note: Do not have access to Natural gas - Country locastion.

Sounds easy, but I know that will take some time and sweat.

Any suggestions or advise is greatly appreciated.
