Greg57,
Having the outside condensing unit shaded from the sun will probably have little to no effect on the working performance of your air conditioner. The biggest help you could provide for your air conditioner is to keep it free from debris. Make sure that plants, bushes, grass, or dirt are not surrounding your air conditioner. The cleaner your coils are the better your air conditioners performance will be. One easy way to improve the working performance of your air conditioner is to have your air conditioner serviced in the spring each year before the summer starts. Another tip would be to spray down your air conditioner in the summer with a garden hose (be sure to shut off the disconnect first). Wash the outside coils down, let it dry for 15 to 20 minutes, and flip on the disconnect. Remember though, cleaning the air conditioner with a garden hose will not have a same effect as a professional servicing.
