I want to replace electric heat and install hot water baseboard. Anyone got any idea of the possible cost? It is a rather small house, one floor, 1400 sq.ft. I could use oil or propane fuel. The basement is not finished so running the copper would not be too hard. The house is in northeastern Pa.
Thanks.

You could get prices anywhere between $6,000 and $8,000 for the conversion. Think twice about doing it, because, unless you are in an area with extremely high electric costs, it will take a long time to recoup your "investment", if you ever will. Even if your electric rates are very high (I'm in NE Pennsylvania, too, so I know where they are), electric rates are a function of fuel costs, so if the fuel is high for a company that buys it in vast quantities, it will be high for a single homeowner also.

I have electric heat, and I keep my house at 65F degrees day and night all winter, and wear sweaters or sweatshirts, and I'm very comfortable, I believe healthier that if the house were kept at higher temps, and my electric bills are quite reasonable, even including cooking, water heating and electric clothes dryer. But then, I'm not in Pike County.
