I live in Indianapolis, IN and have a storage barn about 40 ft from the main house. The previous owner has run power to it but I would like to run a water line to it since i have a 30 by 10 dog kennel right next to it. I am on private well which is only 1/2 horsepower. What is the best and most inexpensive way to do it? i have run a water hose to the kennel but virtually no water pressure. Any help would be appreciated.
Garden hose is the most inexpensive way I can think of.
Best way would be to trench from the foundation of the house (easiest if you have a basement with accessible water lines) to the barn and install a water line below frost level (minimum 42" below grade in our area). Installing a yard hydrant next to or inside the barn would provide year round water without freezing. Yard hydrant is steel pipe about six feet long with lever handle on top. The hydrant is essentially a handle connected to a long rod with the water shut off down at the bottom of the pipe. Hydrant gets attached to supply pipe and bottom 3-4 feet buried in the dirt. You see the steel pipes with orange handles all over the place.
WATCH OUT FOR THE POWER LINE IF IT'S BURIED.
Water pressure and volume from the well is a different issue. If the whole house has low pressure, well repair/service may be in order.
