New Construction: My plumber can't find any leak from our gas line but it seems like we lost one pound of pressure from a 15 lbs test pressure within 24 hrs. The strange thing is, after it dropped to 14 lbs, now it seems like it’s holding its pressure. Is 1 lb per 24 hour an acceptable leak? My plumber also says that gas don’t even reach more than 4 lbs of pressure. Please advice. Are there other ways to find gas leak? Thank you.
I'm a contractor in the Atlanta area and the loss of 1 psi would not be a concern due to the likelyhood it is probably a result of the temperature differential from when it was pressurized to the time you checked. In our area (Atlanta) that would not be considered a leak.
The inspectors generally carry a chart that has an allowance for pressure differentials based upon temperature and time. The delivered gas pressure will probably be no more than 1/2 psi (14" Water Gauge), unless you have what is considered high pressure, 2 psi, but that is rather unusual for residential.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, since I posted this message - i noticed that it's actually loosing more. After almost a week - it's now down to 11 psi from 15 psi. Again my plumber is saying that gas never exceeds 5 psi so I'm not sure if this is a problem or he's just trying to get away from finding the leak. However, he has spent so much time already looking for the leak and puzzled because he can't find it anywhere.
