While multi-stage heating systems may be better than conventional systems, if you are willing to pay a little extra for even more comfort, there are better alternatives. The system shown is a hot air system - the least efficient and least comfortable type of system, but also the most common and least expensive. For the ultimate comfort, I reccomend radiant heat with an outdoor reset control which will modulate the water temperature of the boiler to the outdoor temp. I.E. - When it is -20F, the water temp will be 140F or higher, depending on the type of system you have, and if the outdoor temp is 60F, the water temp will be closer to 80F with constant circulation. This will also reduce the risk of freezing in extreme weather conditions. If you would like air conditioning that is modulating, zoneable, and free from the dust and noise produced by ductwork, I reccomend mini-split ductless air conditioning systems. An option that is also available for them is a remote control that could be kept at the night stand, coffee table, etc.. While these systems are significantly more expensive, I believe the comfort factor and savings in energy use will be well worth the initial expense.
