I'm trying to determine some better guidelines on Smoke Detector placement in a room that has a ceiling fan. Most often, this woukd be a standard sized bedroom. I've read many times not to place them "near" ceiling fans and a couple web sites state not within 3 feet. Anyone out there able to give some better pinpointed advice. My goal is to have both but I want to do it right.
Thanks!

I have a wired smoke detector in two upstairs bedrooms (due to remodeling and requirements to code). There are also ceiling fans in both of these rooms. Fan in one room is 5 feet from detector (end of fan blade), other room is about 3 feet from detector (end of fan blade). Neither has had an issue with respect of detector due to the fan, in fact the fan closest has assisted in keeping the detector from going off when we have very hot/humid weather in the summer. Don't know if there is any codes that would state where placement would be. Our detectors happen to be near the door of the room and the fans are in the center of the rooms and due to odd shape happen to land offset to the door placement. Hopefully someone will see this who may have better "code" knowledge to point you in the right direction. Good luck with your project.
