i am an electrical contractor in Michigan. i am having trouble finding a product that is needed for a remodel project. i believe i may have seen this advertised or a video of installation on this site. the product is undercarpet flat conductor cable. have not had any luck at several suppliers. any help would be appreciated. i tried a site Thomas & Betts, this was a product (Versa-Trak) available several years ago, but site says it is obsolete now.

Hello arwoodman, the flatwire is needed for a basement remodel that has a concrete floor. there will be carpeting when done. we need to connect romex in wall and in island to supply power to a receptacle. after a full day of research we found tyco electronics manufactures this product and all the connectors. they only manufacture when an order is made. we have to buy in 50 ft. reel and it will take about six weeks. one of our suppliers can obtain this product for us. thank you for your response. also, the site you mentioned was listed when we were searching. thanks again, Lu

Hello to all.

Could you please tell me where you found the flat conductor cable. Is there a website? Will the National Electrical Code allow a cable under a carpet/rug? Please advise. Thank you. Bill 10/3/05

Hubbell is a good source for your undercarpet wiring. They make it for 1 to 3 circuits and they also make Cat 5 LV flat cable. It does meet NEC when installed properly. It has to be glued to the concrete with their glue and then a foil shield installed on top of the cable. I didnt find it on their website but know it is a current product because I just bid a job with a lot of it on it. You may have to talk to Hubbell direct because my local rep didnt know about it.

Also try tyco products, from radio shack, we have recently installed this tyco product, it is a first class product, although very costly
