I prefer a gas fired boiler feeding radiant tubing. It's unobtrusive and it actually heats from the floor up as opposed to warming the air above you meaning the temp is where you set it but, at the height of the thermostat not at sitting level. Being gas fired instead of oil reduces the cost in maintenance.

Some infloor radiant heating people were recently introduced to Super Therm (not by me) which was applied to the floor base instead of the thin foams or foils prior to the installation of the heating tubes. Super Therm is a thin filmed multi-ceramic insulation coating. Few effective insulation materials exist where space is extremely limited.

The results showed the test rooms that had the coating applied warmed up the floor more rapidly than the room that was insulated with standard insulation. Apparently twice as fast which means less energy used.
The coating prevented heat from migrating downwards into the substrate.
