We are in the process of building a house and I noticed yesterday that some of the flexible returns (from Register to main run) are wet. The insulation is saturated because our roof isn't shingled yet and despite the vents being covered they weren't sealed so the water entered via the returns.

I will have those flexible runs replaced but my concern is mold due to the heat and humidity here in NC. I am concerend that mold spores may have entered the main run. What precautions should I take before the furnace is turned on or am I worrying about nothing? I punctured the flexible runs to let the water drain out until I can get my HVAC person back out.

Thank you

The IICRC pretty much mancates that with any water damage where ductwork is affected the ducts to remain should be cleaned and sanitized. Check the NADCA and IICRC websites.

Wisk I had seen this when it was posted. The duct work should not have been installed at all until the house was dried in. At any rate the affected ducts should have been removed and replaced.
