We had some water damage which prompted a kitchen renovation, the cabinets are intact and had only minor damage so they are staying, the frustration is that they have been refaced once already by the previous owner and are now outdated (oak)and to reface again is too expensive. we thought we'd sand and use a dark stain and add some knobs and handles which they currently do not have. We can't get off whatever the coating is. Then we thought we'd paint them but I am guessing that if I can't get off whatever this outside coating is the paint won't stick. Any advice? We have tried sanding and liquid sandpaper and there is still something on the wood. Help!! Thanks! Mimi4
Hi Mimi4 Paint is the right way to go. Alight sand and the right primer will do. Just take a sample to the local paint store. so you get the right primer.
