HI there - I'm really frustrated and hoping to get some ideas from you all about what to do here.

We moved into our house a year ago. At that time, we had a lot of work done to it, including new granite in the kitchen (placed on top of existing while laminate cabinets). The granite is called Juperana Fantastico & has lots of browns, tans, grays and some black in it.

At the time, we picked out some glass 4x4 tile for the backsplash, one tannish color, the other dark brown, both irridescent, with a 1" gold border. We have waited until now to get the tile installed & it's being done this week.

Here's the problem:

I hate it!! I really hate it. it is the ugliest tile I have ever seen. The combination of colors, with the gold (nothing else in our house is gold, it's all stainless steel or that dark bronze color). It looks "busy" and the tiles are irridescent and it just totally detracts from the beautiful granite beneath it. I really wish we would have went with something a lot more simple - like natural stone. That gold border is hideous and only makes the tile look more gaudy than it is.

Help!! What can I do? This thing cost us around $3k with labor & we can't really afford to rip it out and start over.

Can I paint it? Can I do something to it to make it better?

It runs all the way up our wall to the cabinets. I am so sad.

Please help

Leslie

Tile backsplash.
You have several options.
one is to paint it until you can afford to redo the tile.
two remove the tile and start over with a cheepr tile, Ieally you should try to bring up the color from the floor to bring the kitchen together.
three, cover it with another tile. Not ideal but will work if done correctly.
four depending on the color of the grout, you can stain the grout another color that will change the look.
Or like our house. put so much stuff on the counter you cannot see the backsplash. (wife is going to kill me if she reads this)
good luck

LOL - you are funny Smiler Thank you for your reply. I'm thinking paint is the way to go for now. My husband will kill me, but I need to do something.

The last few days, I've seen a new 'feature' of this lovely tile: as the sun hits it, the irridescence in the tile turns PINK. ew. I am absolutely the farthest thing from a pink person & there is nothing pink in our house. why oh why did we pick this hideous tile???

Well. So now I need to figure out what to paint it with. I suppose I'll need some primer first so the paint sticks. And I'll have to figure out how to NOT paint the grout so it doesn't look cheesy. Any ideas there?

Thanks again!

I would attmept to scrape out the grout with a grout saw. You will need to etch the surface of the glass tile and clean it really really good for any apoxy paint to stick. The method of this should be explained on the product you decide to purchase. Once you paint then re-grout the wall with non-sanded grout with a color of your choice.
There is no way you can paint without getting the grout covered with paint. It would take for ever to cut in each tile.
