We have granite counter tops my question is we have the 4 in. backsplash all the way around we have the flat cooktop I want to put a tile backsplash on that wall the stains from cooking is getting on the sheetrock that is there now. Do I remove the 4 in. granite on that wall or start above it with my design I say remove it my husband says leave it? Please help Summer
I would leave it. It will be easier and less likely to mess up the existing cabinet. We have done several of these counter top splashes. have you considered a Tile Murial in that area beginnig just at the top of the back splash? Or a decorattive tile can also be used. Just match the deco tile to your cabinet top and tie it in with a color to match your floor tile or other decor.
Cherry Cabinets/Tan Brown Granite platform/ Black Appliances with gas cook-top and beige mixed with light brown flooring (Linoleum).
I have a 4" granite backsplash. I am planning for a tumbled marble backsplash (Chairo Noce) above the 4" granite strip with some bronze deco. My dilemma is behind the Gas Cooktop due to grease. Im planning on using 1"x1" sq bits of tumbled marble with bronze broder.
Did anyone have any issues with cooking splatters/grease? I am planning on applying a sealant - 2/3 coats atleast, but dont want to repent right after i start using the burners in the back. Please advise.
Thanks in advance Sri

Its easier and less likely to damage anything if you leave the current granite backer and install tile backsplash sitting atop of it.
Install tile using modified thin-set mortar. Wait a day for it to cure. Then grout using desired color. Let grout stand for 30 mins before cleaning with a damp sponge. Ring out most of the water. Keep your sponge clean using a wipe wipe / dunk in water and ring out process. You don't want to soak your grout. Carefull not to pull grout out of joints.
Wait 3 days for grout to fully cure then seal. 2 coats of AquaMix sealler will work Great. If you are using stone tile you should pre seal the tile prior to grouting so as the grout doesn't stain the stone tile.
Good luck with your project
