I have Oak cabinets that are a lighter honey color. I want to paint the walls but fear nothing really looks good with these honey cabinets! I would like them to look a little more modern as the look too country for me. Is there any product that can change the color of this wood without sanding or stripping anything? Also, I am not sure but I don't think it is all real oak! Thanks! Bjgreen

Depending on the cabinet construction they may not be real wood. Many cabinets are a photo imprint on a press board material.

If the cabiners are made of this photo board material you must work carefully so not to damage the face of them if you decide to paint.

I know of no method of changing the looks without either painting or replacement or installing new hardware.

If you decide to paint them which is not really that hard. You must first clean real good before you do any sanding. Although you may keep your kitchen real clean, there is still a lite grease film on the fronts. It can come from the cooking in the kitchen to the cleaners used to remove the grease build up.

To clean I would use TSP and scrub real good. Rince with lots of water as well. If the fronts have nooks and crannies, get a tooth brush and get into the corners real well.

I would remove the cabinet fronts and drawers. Clean the frames then lightly sand. Paint with a good quality high gloss paint color your choice. Then take the fronts/drawers outside and clean them real good. Again a good quality high gloss finish will do the trick. You can purchase a spray gun to put the paint on if your not good with brush and roller. Take your time and you will be real happy with the results.
Install new hardware and you will end up with a new looking kitchen in no time.
