we are remolding our kitchen and the budget hit bust about 20K ago. To save money our designer suggested that we use slate (slab) for our countertop instead of soapstone. We have about 100 sq.ft to install. We loved the properties of soapstone but it will run about 13,000k to install. Anyone use slate? How does it hold up to use? Look?

Slate looks pretty good but since I put soapstone in my kitchen, I will never have any other type of countertop. You can see my installation at CraftsmanRemodel.com. Look at the Interior Finish Pictures in the Photo Gallery for final kitchen pics. For a before and after look at the FAQ page. Last but not least, take a look at the blog for the step-by-step installation.

Tahnks for your reply. We bit the bullet and stayed with our original plan to use soapstone. I am so glad we did. I love it!!!
