i'm trying to build a breakfast bar in front of my oven/range but don't want things to drop off onto the range. the countertop will be concrete. i need a backsplash for the range that is double sided, strong enough to stand alone against the breakfast bar and heat resistant. any suggestions?
thanks

A few things come to mind here.
1st off, why concrete? If the breakfast bar is going to be made out of concrete I am not sure if that is a wise choice. Although you can build supports strong enough to hold the cement, it still risks some flexing. The cement will tend to or want to crack. Using stone or solid surface material you lower that risk of occurance.
As far as a backsplash to protect the stove from falling items. Another concern. Fire. I would not put a eat on counter or any counter for that matter that people would be sitting and using next to the stove. There is alway the chance that something will fall over any type of backsplash you install. There may also be some code issues there as well.

But if you decided to use cement top, then you can use a cement backsplash, or a stone one that can be glued into place.

I still would think of another way of doing this just for safety.
