I'm having a hardwood floor problem and could use some expert advice. We gutted and remodeled our kitchen/family room 18 years ago and installed wide board oak flooring throughout to match the rest of our house.
The planks are random width, ranging from 3" to 7". The floor sits above a 5' crawl space. We had some minor warping of the larger boards shortly after they were put in, but that wasn't a big issue, However, about a month ago we had a major lifting between a 5" and a 7" board. It's obvious as soon as you step on the seam--you can almost trip over it. We're totally puzzled as to why this would happen after 18 years for no apparent reason. Is there anything we can do (anchoring, pounding, whatever) to get these boards in better alignment? The problem is only between these two boards, but it runs their length.
