Hi, this may be as much a question of functionality as it is "look". I am planning a new kitchen for later this summer and I would like to set the kitchen windows(3) low enough that the countertop (laminate or silestone)would seamlessly extend into the sill. The reason for this is I would like to improve the view to the outside, as the house is on a steep hill and sitting on the island stool that extra 6" or so would greatly improve the line of sight. I plan on using a flat countertop and a tile backsplash. Somewhere I have seen this done and remembering the "look" being OK. But I am not sure if the lack of a backsplash esp. behind the sink would be missed.
Depends. Do you have small children who might splash a lot in the sink? What is the window made of? Can it stand occasional wetting? It might be a nice look, especially if you return the backsplash around the window jamb on each side. If the inhabitants of the house will be acreful at the sink, go for it.

I would not suggest this. Keep the window up at least four inches. My reason being is if the window ever needs repairs or replacement. You may end up having to tear apart the counter to make the repair. Not a pretty job.
