I am building a house and I must decide on kitchen cabinets, countertop color, and a floor. I don't want a dark kitchen, but I do love the cherry wood color.

I just don't know what color goes with what!

Please advise!

I love cherry wood too. Its so nice and warm - therefore you can go with warm colors. Think toffee colors. You can certainly lighten up the kitchen by using light browns, yellows, gold tones and warm off whites. Cherry wood cabinets are very classy so if you are looking at say marble countertops you could use some of the lighter tones to lighten up the kitchen. Then use a lighter tile also (white can be stark and cold so you might want something with a brown in it). Your paint scheme can also help lighten up the kitchen. Get samples to hold with your cabinets to get a feel for the look. Also visit some showrooms and see how they combine colors to compliment the cherry cabinets.
Best of luck!
