We have beautiful maple kitchen cabinets, many with a light bird's eye pattern. Unfortunatley the 1959-era copper hardware and -get this- copper corner caps are very unsightly.

My heart would like to update the kitchen, perhaps by using strips around the edges and 'boxing in' the faces with a small strip on each edge (like cathedral, but without the curve), but I cringe at the thought of covering the beautiful wood.

Any suggestions? And if I do 'box in' the cabinet face, what do I do with drawer faces?

Any help would be great.
