We have a great room kitchen/family room combination, where the kitchen, dining area and family room are in one huge space.
The kitchen cabinets are maple, the floor is tiger wood (reddish/brownish/orangish with black streaks here and there). First of all, was that a faux pax to pair maple cabinets with tiger wood hardwood floors?
My other question is what kind of wood should we use for the coffee table, end tables, tv armoire - should it be maple to match the cabinets? Should it be that dark black/brown expresso color? To go more with the floor? The tiger wood floor is throughout.
I would like to have a somewhat retro-ish, contemporary (not modern) look, with a thick flokati or shag rug in the family room, retro-looking end tables/coffee table. The walls are a warm camel/tannish color, with one dark brown accent wall in the kitchen. The countertops are charcoal grey. The sofas are maroonish/brownish leather (I wish I could get new ones, but I can't)
Linda888 Did you ever get an answer to this question? I also have maple cabinets in a great room much like you described - and am struggling to find a coffee table to coordinate with the maple cabinets. I was told beechwood - but haven't found anything I like. Did you find anything? Mlena
