Years ago my dad wallpapered their paneling. Now, my mother wants me to remove the wallpaper then texture and paint. I am not going to spray the texture, was planning a Faux Finish and my concern is the wallpaper glue. Do you think I could just lightly sand, kiltz, then mud? Or would I have to use some type of glue remover? Please give me your thougts.
Unless your dad used paint on the panel before the paper went up. Your going to be out of luck on removal. My suggestion is to purchase sizing paper. It is just like wall paper and is much thicker. It will bridge over any groves in the paneling and once dried and painted it will look like you painted over drywall. Just be sure the paper that is already there is on good. Any loose stuff peel it off so the new paper will bond well.
This material can be purchased at most home centers. You can purchase it in a smooth texture or you can purcase it embossed with a pattern already on it so you just paint and you have your texture already done.
