My husband and I just purchased our first home, which was a bit of a fixer upper. It needed new counter tops in both the kitchen and master bath. The cabinets didn't seem to be strong enough to withstand the weight of quartz and it wasn't in the budget to get entirely new cabinets at this time so we went with laminate counter tops to hold us over until we can get all new cabinetry. My father in law suggested we get them from a particular place in town that ONLY does laminate counter tops but it wasn't until we ordered them and got them home that we realized that the glossy look to new laminate that we had seen various places was actually a specific finish that is ordered. I'm wondering if there is anything out there or some type of technique that can take my matte finish laminate counter tops to glossy? I'm really hoping so because we ordered the faux granite look, which would really look nice with a high gloss.

These people say Varithane or automotive polyurethane works. I've never tried it or known anybody who has. If you try it or find something else, write back and let us know how it works.

Good luck!

This stuff will not stick. Do not waste your time. You will end up needing to replace the tops.

I buy "Nu Finish" once a year car polish at the Dollar Store. Wipe it on the countertops with a damp cloth, let dry, wipe off with a soft cloth. Just sit back and enjoy the sparkle!
