Bedroom walls and ceilings have had double-sided tape, poster tape, sticky tack, tacks, nails, illuminating stars, etc. all of which left holes and residue. Too many to repair w/spackle, literally every half inch of wall is effected. Is there something I can roll on then sand for smooth walls? Otherwise, what do I ask a professional to do? Thank you.

You can try rolling a coat of two of good quality primer, then wallpaper over it, but the more prep work you do before doing that the better the end result will be. Any places with adhesive residue are places where paint or primer will not bond to the wallboard and will eventually flake loose. If it were my home, I think I would consult a professional if the job was to much for me to tackle myself.

elbow grease.
Get a product such as goof-off and clean.
Unless you remove the product completly the glue that remains will show up through the new finish paint. You can use a sander with very fine sand paper and carefully sand after you clean the walls. Do not do it to much as it will bore through the paper finish of the wall/ceiling. Once clean touch up any damage and then use a good quality primer/sealer on all surfaces.

The only other method of fixing this is either to paper over with sizing paper and paint or remove the walls and then re-sheetrock over ceiling and place new walls up.
