I'm sure this has been discussed millions of times...I am finishing my basement. I have purchased 4x8 sheets of mold resistant drywall. My ceiling is 8'. Would it be better to hang the drywall vertically due to no butt joints but more seams or horizontally due to fewer seams but more butt joints?

Seems to me there would be the same number of linear feet of seam, either way. Under some lighting conditions, butt joints can really look bad. I'd go with vertical.

Yes, hanging the drywall vertically eliminates the butt joints, and works fine if your framing is level across the face of the wall.

The reason most drywall is hung horizontally is to make framing irregularities less noticeable in the finished wall.
