The previous owner laid a ceramic tile floor in the living room and sealed the grout. The problem is that he smeared the sealant onto the tiles and did not wipe it up. Now the floor looks dirty and I can not get it clean. Is there a way to remove the sealant from the tiles? Also, the tiles are white and cold looking...is it possible to "stain" the tiles a darker color?
There is no way to effectively change the color on the surface of the tile. You will have to replace them. Without knowing the sealer manufacturer it is a little bit of a crap shoot as to what to use. Try contacting Aqua Mix company or Miracle Sealant company and see if they can recommend a stripper that will remove the sealer coating.

Hi,if the tiles are Smooth, try using one of those Razor Blade scrapers, try to hold it as Flat as U can,so U don't scratch the tiles. I watch allot of Make Over Shows and Iv'e seen them Pain over Many Diffrent Floor types, that I've never thought possiable. After they Paint the floors they usually put some kind of Sealer over them to protect them. I Wish U Well...... Tasha
A really simple way to remove grout sealer from tile is to use a nylon brush and scrub them with a mild cleanser (I use Softscrub) and it will come off. The last time I did this was with a textured slate and it even worked on this surface. As far as staining the tile it is not going to stay if they are ceramic. If it is old natural stone it may be possible. I agree that a oil based paint may work if it is sealed after the fact but I would try it on a sample piece first. Good luck.
