What is the best way to appply carpet to plywood for wall protection? I plan to attach plywood to walls, then cover it with carpet. Thought about contact cement, but wondered if there was a better way.
Thanks
Frank

I talked to another contractor, who uses construction adhesive, spread over the carpet and the glued to plywood. The room is part of a church multipurpose room and gets a lot of wear.

I thought this was for the walls. What kind of wear on the walls would cause it to come off if it were stapled securely? You could glue it but it would be much harder to change it in the future.

In a building with such an occupancy, please consult the building code for your area, because there will likely be code provisions about the "Flame Spread Rating: and "Smoke Developed" rating of wall finishes. Be absolutely certain that the carpet will meet those requirements.

There are certain test procedures that materials are submitted to, to determine these ratings. The requirements are often different for wall finishes as opposed to floor finishes. The carpet may have never been tested as a wall finish.

This is a life safety issue. Please be very careful. If there were ever a fire, and the wrong materials were used on the walls, the results could be tragic.
