How do I check to make sure that the flashing around my windows and doors is installed coorectly? This is a five year old house and from the poor fit and finish work I have seen so far I am concerned a bout this.
Tough to do at this point without removing trim and extensions , even then you have a very limited view. Removing siding will give you the best view but that isn't very practical. The even tougher thing is to define what "installed correctly" means. You have to determine what code was in effect at the time of construction and determine, if any, what it said about flashing windows. I would suggest using a protimeter (measures moisture in and behind a wsall) to determine if you have any intrusive moisture behind your window extension and walls, both aside and especially below the window. That will determine if you have flashing problems or not.

Good info. Thanks. How do I get my hands on one of these? Can I rent one? I live in Southern California and out here construction is done by 16 year old kids from Mexico with a nail gun. Fit and finish is not good. My neighbor has mold problems in his house and my concern is that the water got in around the windows because their is a 3/8" gap between the stucco and the window on his house.
