Hi, I would like your input for my 14 year old daughters bedroom that we are remodeling. We have hung new drywall and want to paint it a very, very soft pink and lay a light mauve carpet. I am ordering her whole bed set, comforter, pillow shams, curtains etc. with pink flowers, a little white background, amd green leaves around the flowers. It is very soothing and soft looking. I am wanting to put wainscoting wood on the back wall that you see when you walk in the room with it being about seven feet high and run a white board at the top of it. I would like the wainscoting wall to be just a shade darker than the other three walls and the foot above it the same color as the other walls. I would like for her room to have a soft, feminine cottage look to it. Do I need to put wainscotting on more than just that wall or not? I do not want her to be unhappy with it or make it look half finished. Any ideas for me to make it look like I just described, as a cottage look?

Hello,

My first question is about the height of your ceilings. If you have 9' or 10' ceilings then you could go 7' high with the wainscoting (which I would do on all the walls, btw). On the other hand, if the ceilings are 8', then I would go with a lower wainscoting. My reasoning is this: 1) I assume this is beadboard, right? the costs will add up since sheets are 4 ft. by 8 ft. You'll have a lot of waste. 2) you won't be able to hang anything on the walls since it will be so high and only 1 feet high. One other thing, I would paint the walls but leave the wainscoting white. Might also consider a more neutral carpet and a mauve throw rug over it. My reasoning is this: she'll be off to college in 4 years, and also in the intervening years, she might changer her mind, and you'll be working with a lot of mauve.

I don't know if you have ordered your daughter;s new bed yet, but I just got a great deal and, when i saw your post, I thought I would tell you about it. 1-800-Mattress has a great sale for this back-to-school time and I saved alot of money on my son's new bed, as well as recieved free bedding and pillows. They have a large selection too. I would highly recommend them!
