We built a new house 6 months ago with 10' ceiling and a vaulted 20' ceiling in the living room, I had the main rooms painted red. We have had to move and our new house has 8' ceilings. I want red wall again to match the furniture but am a little scared with the low ceilings. The living room and kitchen are basically one big room, stretching the entire length of the house. Anyone tried red with this low of a ceiling?
Yes, red walls can be beautiful with smaller ceiling heights. Think of this though. In an eight foot setting, your peripheral vision needs to be considered. On ten foot ceiling you have to look up to notice the ceilings. Not the case in 8'. The ceilings cannot be kept white. They need to be flat and painted in a beige or gold color. Usually I use the two shades lighter on the ceiling rule but with red that means pink!! If you like pink that's okay. However, most people today using red are also using golds. If this is the case, don't be afrain to add the gold to the ceiling. 'Whatever you do, do not leave the ceilings white. In my opinion, it looks cheap and unfinished.
