We are updating our house, because we want to sell it. The previous owners did not maintain or renovate anything in this house. So I assume, the wallpaper was hung when the house was built in 1984... Frowner
This I have been hearing horror stories about stripping wallpaper, I was wondering if we could just paint over them. If that is a possibility, how what it be done?

You can paint over wallpaper if it is adhered properly, though I don't suggest you do it. I don't know what it is like where you live, but up here you find a lot of mold under wallpaper.

If you do decide to go ahead with painting it, do a test area first to see if the wallpaper starts bubbling or peeling when you apply paint. If it seems solid then clean walls, use a good primer and a high quality %100 acrylic paint.

I am sure there are many here who do this all the time that can give you some other advice.
