Hello,

I am in the process of installing an electric heater in my single car garage. It is a Dimplex 240V 4800 watt heater. I would like to wire a switch so that I can turn it on and off easily, as it has a built in thermostat so it will be tough to reach the switch because it is on the back of the unit.

Here is a picture of the recepticle it uses:

I am using 12 AWG as per the instructions, only going about 18 feet fromt he breaker box. So I have one ground and the other two wires (white and black). The white and black will be running from opposite sides of the dual 30A breaker.

So how would I wire a switch in so I can turn the unit off and on?

you can either use the breaker to turn it on and off, or wire in a double throw, double pole disconnect. there are different types that you might be able to use. the ease of use would depend on the disconnect used. some might even look like a standard light switch, but would be more BEEFY then a simple light switch. what ever you do, ensure that the switching system/cutoff meets or exceeds the power required. an electrician might be in order for this.
