We are going to build a new home this year and want to know all the things we need to do to ensure we don't have the problems that have been posted on this site.
Has anyone built a basement using a single pour of concrete for floor and walls? By eliminating the seam at floor level will this prevent water penetration?
Does anyone know anything about air infused concrete?
A single pour for floor and walls is very likely to crack at the intersection, unless it is very carefully designed and very carefully reinforced. You want to avoid sudden changes in cross-section, and you have to take into account expansion/contraction and normal concrete shrinkage. I'm sure it can be done, but it is out of the league of the ordinary residential contractor. Ideally, you would have a 4-inch 45-degree fillet at that joint to help control cracking, but you probably don't want that in your basement.
