My front porch was built as a part of the original foundation. They put porch boards on the porch, which allows moisture and cold to get into the foundation area. The porch now needs replacing and I am considering making the porch a separate unit, as it should be.To do this I will need to put a block wall under the house at the back of the porch, which is a major job. Someone said to use concrete forms, lay forms accross beam and just make a concrete porch. Porch is 6 feet wide by 32 feet long. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I'm afraid I will need a lot better description of both existing conditions and proposed construction in order to comment. Your statement "as it should be" is not necessarily correct.
What are "porch boards"? What is meant by "foundation area"? Is it inside a basement? Why would you need to put a block wall under the house at the back of the porch? Isn't there a wall there already? If not, what supports the back of the porch? What is meant by "lay forms across beam"? What beam? Is the porch roofed? What supports the roof, if so?
Try to clarify these issues and we'll see what we can do about some answers.
