Hi, My husband and I recently had new custom construction. One of the problems is that a storage area specifically built for the storage of art materials off of the studio and under the living room in a tri level filled with water when it rained. The builder says its our fault. That the space was only built to store items taht would not be damaged by water and that we could only store items in certain areas and not on the poured concrete floor and that we should have known better than to have stored plaster, molds, art papers and canvases in that area. I say differently becasue the area was built specifically to store items I would be using in the studio right off of the storage area. I also say that even the crawl space is supposed to be dry and that the building codes in Richland WA state as such in the meantime I have lost numerous expensive items due to the fact that I stored them in the storage area. Help! If those were the only problems we have had with our home - it would be a blessing this has been a nightmare.
No doubt another one who built without an architect on their side.
It is neither normal or correct to have water in crawl spaces or basements. Beyond that, there's not much that can be said without seeing the actual installation, and knowing a lot about how it was built.
