My basement floor has cracks in all directions. Water is coming up thru each and every crack. In some areas I have 2 inches of water in a depression in the floor, as fast as I sweep the water up or vaccuum, it fills again. Is this hydrostatic pressure, I am on a very high water table. What to do?
For quite a few, not all, they should try to have an honest/exp plumber try & snake through strom trap etc. Some people THINK they are in a high water table area and, are NOT!
Yeah, some Inside Co`s will tell you each `n every time this is hydrostatic pressure when it could just be a blockage under the floor, freed by snaking. And NOT every plumber will know or do what is necessary, sry thats the truth.
Quite often, there is a blockage and water will accumulate, back up and Rise up through floor cracks. There is where MANY are taken by some Inside water-diverting Co`s. They are bs`d into an Inside drain tile or baseboard dewatering system w/sump(s) from anywhere between $6,000 and $20,000+...i WILL provide homeowners who have either been bs`d into it or were on the verge of spending this kind of money before calling some of us honest contractors.
I kid you not, this is yet another reason for my posting and other contractors willing to speak up.
IF you do have a house in a high water table area, like on a spring... built where it probably shouldn`t have been or below sea level like N Orleans, then you will need a sump or 2+ to....control the water level under the floor before it can rise up through floor cracks etc. Some of them WILL also need a drain tile system on 1 or more walls, NOT a baseboard system, IMO this is just about completely useless.
However, for those who live below sea level AND have crack(s) in basement wall(s), you will also need to waterproof those cracks correctly to...stop water from entering. This will also stop/prevent mold/efflorescence. See, some will need both things done in 'high water tables', just depends on the circumstances.
Some may also have a wall that is bowing inward due to lateral-hydrostatic pressure or possibly roots from trees which causes walls to crack, leak, bow or even collapse. Seems pretty silly to put braces etc up along a wall that is bowing in and NOT relieve/lessen the pressure that is on the Outside. This is what many Inside Co`s do NOT want to do,much if anything on the outside.Yeah, some will dig 1-3' deep, that will NOT relieve/stop/prevent lateral-hydrostatic pressure and does NOT stop water from entering through cracks `n other openings/crevices in bsmt walls.
How many Inside Co`s actually recommend to homeowners to FIRST have a plumber snake under the floor, huh? Not many IF any.
