Hi Folks,
i need a do it yourself solution fro venting the sump pump area.
I had an accident in the garage, and dumped 10 gallons of fuel from the vehicle tank. It has traveled into the foundation drainage system, to the suymp pump, and the fumes emitting from this area are horrendous.
I need something along the lines of a radon mitigation system without the big expense.
Thoughts?

Ummm how about an eternal flame??

Suppose you took some rigid round metal duct like might be used for a clothes dryer or a bathroom exhaust fan, and ducted from the inlet pipe in the sump to a window, and just inside the window, set up a cheap bathroom exhaust fan, and just let the little booger run for what? a week? a month? however long it takes for the discharge from the fan to stop smelling like fuel.

If you can contrive to spill a few quarts of Chanel No. 9 on the garage floor, it might accelerate the process.

Sorry, couldn't resist. But the fan idea is serious, and it probably won't cost you a hundred dollars. You'll need some kind of round-to-rectanular duct transition piece so you can connect to the inlet side of the exhaust fan, using lots of...you guessed it...duct tape.

You think maybe put the fan in position to blow air into the sump rather than suck gasoline fumes through the electric fan motor on the way out?

Well, then we'd be blowing the funes back into the gravel below the floor slab, and as soon as we take away the rube goldberg fan, guess what?
