Hi- I am new here and have a question if anyone can answer. Is it possible to pour new cement over some that my husband poured last fall? He made a mistake and forgot to slant it away from the outside entrance door so water pools in front of door. Any advice how to fix this would be welcome. Thanks

The easiest way to fix this would be to get a "feather" capable cement, such as Ardex or Nu-Crete. It allows you to apply a very thin layer of cement and feather it out to nothing. You must clean the existing concrete with a strong non-oily cleaner, or, better yet, muriatic acid from your local concrete supplier or home center.

More and more I see slabs as the finished floor in the form of acid stains or polished concrete in home magazines. How does one go about finding someone in your area (I'm in Arizona) who is knowledgeable in this kind of work? I'd love to rip up this carpeting and linoleum and have a nice polished concrete surface. Can they do anything about cracks? I've heard this can be as expensive as hardwood floors in which case hardwood might be the better way to go.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has had this kind of work done.

Hi Kjazz,

I hired a big floor area acid stained in a public building a few years ago and then did a floor in my shop building myself where I learned that expertise is important. I found a gal out in New Mexico on the net named Gay Goodman who is really into acid staining. Her work is fabulous and you can check her out at
http://www.gaygoodman.com . She does training and seminars as well as having her own crews and is in your neck of the woods.

Thanks for the info Monz. I will definitely check out her website. I see a lot of stained floors in public buildings and restaurants but I've yet to see it in a residence.
Thanks again for the info and the spelling correction.

I know this is a little late however I am with a compnay that actually polishes concrete. There are many options you can have with colors and designs for a very beautiful finished product. You can see what I am talking about at

We also travel anywhere west of the rockies.
