Hello,
I was wondering if you could help me. I have a leak around the main drain line leaving my basement to the septic tank. It only leaks when it rains or heavy snow melts. We have gutters in place and the ground is sloped away from the house. I'm at a loss!

MisiT,
It's very possible that your basement was not waterproofed. If it was, was the septic tank installed before or after the the waterproofing was applied? The only way to know is to dig up that area and see. Usually the septic line is approximately 2 feet below grade so to satisfy curiosity it could be checked by digging by hand. If waterproofing was applied, additional treatment to the area should be done. If it wasn't then at a minimum, especially if this is the only place your seeing water, the area should be excavated and waterproofing and a french drain should be applied so the ground water will have an avenue of escape other than your basement.
